The Blog is back...

After a long absence, your blogger is back - although I'm not sure how complete a round up this will be as there are a lot of weeks to catch up on and it is getting late....
The main thing is that we have a completed, up to date, independently verified table, with a number of surprises in it. So if you can't be arsed to read the round up, jump straight to the table below & ignore this drivel...

14 May 2008 Game 1 – 10 players - (1st Lee, 2nd Mark, 3rd Baz)

Play started at 20:44 with a serious discussion about the murderous Jayson fish. Turns out that while lodging in the Young's fishtank, they have turned evil and brutally finished off all of the Young's fish. Let that be a warning to anyone considering having the Jaysons over to stay...

First to exit was JJ, at the hands of Sharon, after he re-raised her £3 raise. She called his £5 re-raise but he wouldn't let go and went all in after the next card came down. Sharon thought for a while but then called him, with a top pair of Queens. JJ turned over a miserable pair of 8s, claiming he was hoping she was on a flush draw. JJ out 10th.

Baz then knocked Jude out (9th), calling her J2 all in with A7 and nothing hit.
Dave departed next, after going all in with JK. Mark called with A2 and hit a 2 straight away. Dave's hopes were re-kindled when he hit a J but the river finished him off, hitting an Ace on the river to double up. Dave out (8th)

Lee took charge, knocking Dan & James out in one hand. Dan went all in and was called by Baz, James and Lee. The flop delivered 499 and Lee raised 2 piles, which scared Baz off but James called. The turn brought a J which gave James a pair so he called Lee's all in raise. Lee flipped over AA and knocked out Dan (7th) and James (6th).

IJ got pocket rockets next doubling up at Baz's expense, who had his first pair of unlucky Qs. IJ was knocked out (5th) next by Shaz, after her Qs beat his 8s.

Baz then won a chunk of chip leader Shaz's chips, doubling up after his JJ turned into a full house. He then doubled up again at Sharon's expense, when his pocket 7s held up against her AK. "There's no justice in this game!" Sharon sighed.

Her chip stack decimated, she called Lee's all in with her Q10, only for his KQ to hold up. Sharon is left with 2 chips and Lee is left to consider the consequences of helping himself to his wife's chips.

Mark eventually puts Sharon out of her misery, & took her 50p with a pair of 3s. Shaz out (4th).
He then knocked Barry out (3rd), who had gone all in with K3 and hit a pair of 3s, only to be destroyed by Mark's 87, which became a full house.

Heads up between Mark & Lee started at 23:15. Mark hit a pair of 8s and raised all in, falling into sly Lee's AA trap. Mark left with 2 piles of red.

He clawed his way back and took the chip lead at one point. However, Lee came back strong, going all in with A8 which Mark called with A10. Although he hit a 10, Lee ended up with a flush on the river, taking the chip lead and crushing the grinder.
The final hand was at 23:37, which Lee won with another flush.
Well done Lee!!!

14 May 2008 Game 2 – 7 players - (1st IJ, 2nd Tommy, 3rd Dan)

Well I said when I arrived that I'd write the blog when I won a game, I just didn't expect to it to be this week.
An aggressive early player, Tommy knocked Baz out (7th), shaming his pocket 2s.
IJ called a big Tommy raise early on with pocket 10s, only to be defeated by Tommy's AK, which had hit an Ace.
JJ doubled up after hitting a full house on the turn which made Dan's trips turn into a very costly hand.
Both Lee and JJ hit trip 10s on the flop, but JJ's were accompanied by a K, which was enough to knock Lee out (6th).
IJ knocked JJ out (5th) after his glorious AA defeated JJ's AK.
Mark went all in with AQ, which Tommy called with KQ, only to hit a full house and knock Mark out (4th). Dan went all in with A10. IJ had a compulsory call with 83 and hit a flush to knock Dan out (3rd).
Heads up started at 01:15 and was all over by 01:20. IJ's 23 gave him trip 3s on the flop, which he checked, enticing a raise out of Tommy who had hit a pair of Ks. IJ re-raised all in and Tommy called, giving IJ victory.
Well done IJ!

2008 Poker Rankings Table

Well it's certainly tight at the top....
Lee is our table leader, with a monster 64 points. Barry is nipping at his heels, whose 63 points from 35 games gives him a better average score but it's points that count and so he has to settle for 2nd place.
Dan remains in third but is now lagging 23 points behind, and is facing a strong challenge from JJ. Last year's champion has finally decided to start playing and it is showing. In the absence of the blog, JJ has climbed into fourth, comfortably ahead of Dave. Maybe I should stay away more often JJ...
The rest of the pack are not showing any signs of putting in a challenge, with Mark finding the London climate much tougher than Sydney. He has the honour of residing in the lowest position of a regular, with Vic's armpits nowhere in sight....

That's all folks for this mega update...
