16 January 2008 (Graham's) "3 Kings deliver gifts for Lee"

Game 1 – 9 players - (1st Lee, 2nd Dean, 3rd Baz)

The start of the first game was delayed by a nasty accident, that closed the North Circular, creating traffic jams spiralling away from Henley's Corner throughout the whole of the surrounding area. James was a casualty of the gridlock, having bravely attempted to reach Abbotts Gardens for an hour and a half and then giving up and crawling home. Nice effort James, hope you made it back eventually but you still owe a tenner, although we'll let you off the £1 Royal Flush stake...
As if the traffic wasn't traumatic enough, Gaby locked the dining room door, creating a fire hazard for those players that managed to safely arrive... She claimed it made a noise, which travelled up through to the loft and woke her up....
But onto the poker, IJ was decimated very early when his pair of Aces on the flop turned into two pair, which were casually swiped aside by Dan's flush. Jude kindly finished IJ off (9th), with pocket Qs against his pocket 4s.
Sharon got abusive after mucking up a deal, due to not seeing the chips that IJ didn't have & dealing him in. She then made a noisy issue about his choice of hands to include in the blog. Disgraceful behaviour ...
Dean doubled up with AQ against Lee's KK, when he hit an Ace. Lee wasn't disturbed for long, as his next KK hit a K & knocked Sharon out (8th).
Dean then doubled up again against JJ, with A8 plays KQ, although Baz would have won if he'd had the balls to call with his 77.
Baz didn't chicken out twice, and in a monster swing hand, he knocked both JJ, AQ, and Dan, Q8, out with big slick. Dan came 7th and JJ 6th.
Dave was out next (5th) when his K10 failed to get lucky against Dean's pockets jacks. Then Mrs Jayson departed with her JK falling victim to Lee's 3rd pocket Kings of the night.
Lee consolidated his position with an Oscar winning performance against Barry. Holding pocket deuces, he hit trips on the flop and convinced Baz that his AK was enough to go all in. Lee gratefully called, hitting a full house in the end and decimating the Bazmeister.
Lee completed the job professionally, pushing Baz out 3rd & squaring up to Dean. Heads up was fairly painless: both hit trip 4s, but unfortunately for Dean his were with a pathetic 2, while Lee's were accompanied by a mighty Jack.
All was over by 11.15, with Lee's win continuing the trend of a Young victory for every week of 2008. Well all 3 of them in any case.

Game 2 – 7 players - (1st Baz, 2nd IJ, 3rd Dave)

After a brief interlude, brightened up by Paul's text "Not playing tonight, but next week def" (we look forward to seeing you Paul) second game kicked off.
Dan was knocked out first, when his AJ ran into Baz's AK, which hit AK. Dan (7th) settled down to the long night ahead, waiting for us all to leave his floodlit palace.
JJ's KK virtually finished off Dean's 66, leaving Dean with a measly 75p. Dean then boldly thrust his chips into the pot, and was cruelly dispatched by Dave's full house. Dean (6th)
Lee's pocket rockets encouraged him to quickly call Dave's all in bluff, and he was rewarded by doubling up. Despite coming back swiftly and knocking JJ out (5th) when his A7 became trip Aces, Dave refused to crack a smile in celebration.
Dave's luck continued when he went all in with 88 to be gratefully called by Baz holding QQ. In an unbelievably lucky twist of events, Dave hit a straight on the river, took his coat off, and tried to hide a smirk.
He went on to knock Lee out (4th) with trip Aces again, but Barry got his revenge, winning a massive pot with pocket 2s, which turned into a full house and overcame Dave's pocket 10s.
Dave then swiftly exited (both the game and the building) when Barry's pocket 8s held up against his pocket 5s. Dave out 3rd.
It was all over by 2am, when the unstoppable Baz's AJ played IJ's QQ, only to hit an Ace.
Well done Baz !

2008 Poker Rankings table:

Lee's 2nd win of the year has knocked Sharon off the top spot, giving the Youngs first and second in the table, a first for our poker game.
The other dynamic poker couple are performing less well, with 2 points between Mr & Mrs Jayson.
Meanwhile, last year's champ is languishing near the bottom of the table, and Dave & Vic share fourth place (not something I imagine I'll have to write very often this year...)

Conversation:

The smokers outside discovered an abandoned pair of shoes, strongly smelling of petrol.
This inspired Sharon to share the story of how she spilt a smoothie in her and Lee's car, didn't bother to clean it up, then went on holiday. Lee was most appreciative of the smell....
But it turns out this wasn't a first smoothie related offence, as she had previously spilt a smoothie all over her laptop, called IT when it wouldn't work and denied that she had spilt anything in it... that is until they unscrewed the keyboard and poured smoothie out onto the desk....
Some discussion about how big Dave's new tv needs to be and what Barry looked like when he had hair (anyone with a photo please submit for next week's blog)
Dan admitted that not only could he not remember what was the first song that he & Gaby danced together at their wedding, but he couldn't remember if they had danced together at all. If anyone can remember please let Dan know.
And talking about first songs....

Match the following songs and poker players:

That's all for this week - thanks for all the feedback about the new blog, keep it coming & see you Wednesday...
