11 June 2008 (The Graham's) "Sleepy Blaz clings to the top"

Game 1 – 8 players - (1st Baz, 2nd Shaz, 3rd Richard)

Although I was at this game I don't seem to have any notes other than:

IJ's pocket Jacks not strong enough to beat Richard (new player) who was holding 2 pair. IJ out (8th) (This may explain why I have no notes...)

Richard 3rd.
Shaz 2nd.
Barry wins, but he was incredibly jammy. So much so that we all hated him and at one point he even admitted to hating Barry. He was on his way out, with barely a big blind to call his own. His luck never ran out until, after 3 crucial hands (in which his AA, KK & A10 all held up) he claimed victory.
Bastard.

Game 2 – 5 players - (1st JJ, 2nd IJ, 3rd Baz)

The 23:40 kick off, saw Mark out (5th) when his reckless call with a pair of 4s was mullered by IJ's trip 6s.
A pair of 4s was all Baz needed to knock Dan out (4th) who went all in with A9.
IJ knocked Baz out (3rd) when his Js held up against Barry's 7s.
Heads up started at 01:10 and a mere 14 minutes, during which JJ hit 3 full houses in a row.
IJ only called the last one, after hitting top pair, but it was enough to knock him out & hand JJ victory.
Well done JJ!

Question of the week:

Q. Is Barry an old git?
A. Well he did fall asleep at JJ's coach on Shavuot afternoon, but then snoozing after sex doesn't mean you're old...

4 June 2008 Game 1 – 9 players - (1st Lee, 2nd Dean, 3rd Dan)

Thanks to Barry for results:
1st game: 9 players
1st lee
2nd dean
3rd dan
Other players : baz jude shaz mark JJ dave
Nothing of note except that it was a night for very lucky escapes/bad beats on the river, and in the first game, with dan, dean and lee left in, dean hit 2 pairs and lee hit lower two pairs.
Lots of raises and dean all in.
Before Lee got a chance to call, dean showed his hand, thinking lee had called. Lee hadn't yet, although he openly admits he was about to.
Instead of being knocked out, Lee was still in with a few stacks left, and then went on to win it with a few lucky hands in a row.

Game 2 – 6 players - (1st Dean, 2nd JJ, 3rd Mark)

Other players : Dan, Dave,Baz

2008 Poker Rankings Table:

It's been 6 games since the table was last updated and Baz is still clinging on to the top spot, with now only a point separating him & Lee.
The big news of the week though is JJ's capture of 3rd place, replacing Dan's 5 point lead with a 4 point margin in his favour. Could 3rd place be merely a staging post in the return to last year's form for our much maligned (largely by this blog) reigning champion? Where will he find the 30 points needed to overthrow his Bournehamwood love rival? How many burgers will they merrily munch together before the end of the year?
One thing's for sure, I'll bet JJ doesn't miss Vic's armpits...
Further down the table, Dave has reclaimed 5th spot from IJ and Dean has taken 7th spot from Jude.
Sadly, Mark is still without a win...
Nuff said.

28 May 2008 (The Jayson's) "IJ Burns Marky's spirit in Dealing Fuck up"

Game 1 – 9 players - (1st Dave, 2nd Mark, 3rd Lee)

Baz was first out (9th) with Qs, after Dave called his all in with AK & then hit a King on the turn.
Shaz followed soon after in a monster hand. JJ re-raised her all in, while Dave re-raised him all in. Shaz pondered for a long time and then called, only to see her 4s dominated by Dave's Ks. But it was JJ who came out on top, with his AJ hit 2 Js and tripled him up. Sharon out (8th).
JJ continued his lucky streak, when Jude called his all in with 5s. JJ's KJ turned into a full house and he doubled up.
Lee got the better of him, when his AQ held up against J's Q10, and doubled Lee up. Turned out that both Dan & Dave would have won, had they been in....
IJ eventually killed JJ off, going all in with AJ, which held up against JJ's A10. J out (7th).
Mark knocked Dan out, when he re-raised all in with his A5, against Dan's deuces. Mark hit a 5 on the first card out & knocked Dan out (6th).
Lee doubled up after his AQ hit AQ, destroying Dave's KJ.
Jude then followed Lee, to double up at Dave's expense, after her Q1o held up against his J10.
IJ went out with Q6 to Lee's K7 which hit trip Ks. IJ out (5th).
Jude followed, after going all in with AK, which Dave called with JQ which hit a J. Jude out (4th).
Lee doubled up after his A10 hit a 10, overwhelming Mark's A5.
The two of them were back in action, this time when Lee had 4 cards to the Royal Flush in clubs. He only needed the Ace of clubs to take the cash prize, but ended up splitting the pot with Mark.
Ultimately, Mark knocked Lee out (3rd) when his pocket rockets held up against Lee's A10 suited.
Heads up between Mark & Dave started at 23:26 and was slow to kick off, with Dan enforcing the 'blinds go up' rule after 15 minutes. Chip leadership swapped between the 2 of them until IJ fucked up big time, burning every other card when dealing. Dave's AQ hit a Q to overtake Mark's 55, but Marky was convinced he was robbed by the card screw up. IJ was very apologetic, denying that this was an act of revenge for the tea stains on his carpet.
His spirit crushed, Mark finally succumbed to Dave's charms at 23:55, when his A6 was beaten by Dave's J10 which turned into a straight.
Well done Dave!

Game 2– 7 players - (1st JJ, 2nd Dave, 3rd Lee)

Dean was blessed with some great cards early on, hitting the nut straight against Lee, who had 2 pair. He didn't raise, because he was waiting to see what the 6th card would bring...
Dave slow played his pocket Aces, which allowed IJ to hit 2 pair with 10 2.
JJ re-raised Baz and Dan £6 all with 3 spades on the table. He'd hit the second nut flush, but unfortunately for him the others folded.
Baz then re-raised Dan all in with AK, which hit AK to double up against Dan's A10.
He then goes all in with AQ, which Lee called with K9 to double Baz up again.
Dan re-raised all in on a straight draw. He told us afterwards that he expected a call from Dave and he expected not to hit his draw and to be knocked out. His predictions came true, proving that there are occasions when Dan is right. Dan out (7th)
JJ knocked IJ (6th) out after his KK held up against IJ's A10 suited.

--------------------------------
JJ continues:

Lee was out in 3rd.

Heads-up, I was a fairly big chip leader but Dave fought back twice and it went on for a good half an hour with both of us feeling the lateness of the hour.

Final hand saw a short-stacked Dave go all-in after my flat call with 10 9 hearts.
I called and hit 4 nines to beat Dave's full house.

What a finish! Well done JJ!
